The Church of England will continue to disallow same-sex marriages and will continue to teach that marriage is the union of “one man and one woman for life.” Some critics noted the hypocrisy of this declaration, given that the marriage of King Charles III, the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, is the second marriage for both his Majesty and Queen consort Camilla. While Princess Diana, the King’s first wife, died in 1997, the Queen’s first husband Andrew Parker Bowles is still alive. Same-sex marriage has been legal in England and Wales since 2013.
