Japanese nonprofit aims to establish LGBT+ hospitality venue for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Good Aging Yells (GAY), a nonprofit focused on supporting the LGBT+ community in Japan, will seek to set up a hospitality venue for LGBT+ athletes and spectators participating in the Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo in 2020.

LGBT+ venues, known as Pride Houses, have been part of the Olympics since the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver.

GAY’s has not yet coordinated its efforts with the Tokyo Olympic organizers, though it may seek to do so.

Discrimination based on sexual orientation is currently prohibited under the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Charter; at least 41 openly LGBT+ athletes competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
