CrossFit exec fired for homophobic comments

A top CrossFit employee was fired by the company for making anti-gay comments. Russell Berger, a head trainer and CrossFit spokesperson, praised an Indianapolis gym’s decision to cancel a Pride-themed event. In a tweet he later deleted, Berger thanked the gym for “standing by your convictions and refusing to celebrate sin by hosting an @indypride workout.”

In a later interview, Berger admitted his comments were imprudent, but stood by his original message. He lamented the “lack of tolerance for disagreement” on social media and in American culture.

CrossFit did not immediately respond with a comment but announced on Twitter that Berger had been fired, and later added that his beliefs “do not reflect the views of CrossFit Inc.”
