On June 2nd, Out Leadership will release our most important and wide ranging report of the year; our 7th annual State LGBTQ+ Business Climate Index.
This groundbreaking annual survey evaluates each of the 50 U.S. states on how their laws, policies, and overall social climateimpact LGBTQ+ people—particularly in the workplace and business environment.
Each state receives a score out of 100, offering a snapshot of how supportive, or hostile, a state is for LGBTQ+ individuals.
We’ve been producing this report for several years and, until recently, the findings have been mostly encouraging. But the trend is now shifting downward.
In the past year alone, hundreds of anti-LGBTQ+ laws were introduced in state legislatures across the nation. Alarmingly, for the second year in a row, the Index found that the political, social, and economic standing of LGBTQ+ Americans is declining.
The Index measures scores for each state across five key categories includingyouth & family support, political & religious attitudes, and workplace environments. Businesses can use the Index to assess where they can safely recruit, retain, and support LGBTQ+ employees.
Out Leadership’s State Climate Index is about LGBTQ+ rights and creating inclusive economies and environments where everyone can thrive.
