Jerri Ann Henry, the first woman to head the Log Cabin Republicans, has resigned, the latest fallout from the group’s controversial endorsement of President Trump’s re-election campaign.
The organization’s chairman and vice chair announced the endorsement in a surprise op-ed in the Washington Post, writing that “we know that ‘Inclusion Wins’ is a mantra we share with the president.”
LCR board member Jennifer Horn had previously resigned, saying “There is no world where I can sit down at the dining room table and explain to my children that I just endorsed Donald Trump for president. It is contrary to everything that I have ever taught them about what it means to be a good, decent, principled member of society.”
Donald Trump’s administration has taken numerous actions against LGBT+ Americans, most recently by asking the Supreme Court to rule that Title VII does not protect LGBT+ people from discrimination.
The President responded to the endorsement by saying: “Some of my biggest supporters are of that community. And I think they — and I talk to them a lot about it. I think I’ve done really very well with that community.”
