Vladimir Posner, prominent Russian journalist, criticizes gay propaganda law

Vladimir Posner, a prominent Russian television broadcaster, has called for the repeal of the country’s law outlawing “gay propaganda.”

Posner, who has been a well-known journalist in Russia and internationally since the Soviet era, stated that the law’s claim that it seeks to protect children is ridiculous, as it is impossible to turn someone gay.  He also attacked the idea that LGBT people are trying to impose their culture on Russia, telling business-gazeta.ru, “What does it mean to ‘impose?’ If I love women, but not men, upon whom am I ‘imposing?’”

The 2013 LGBT propaganda law, which has been widely condemned in Western countries and by LGBT advocacy organizations in Russia, has placed significant restrictions on LGBT people who want to live openly in the country.
