Transgender girl denied entrance to both locker rooms during lockdown

A local LGBT+ group in Stafford County, Virginia has alleged that a transgender girl was kept in the gym as teachers and administrators debated which locker room she should be placed in during a lockdown drill.

Stafford Equality asserts that the debate centered around the question of other students’ safety, in line with fears that have driven “bathroom bills” across the country banning transgender people from using bathrooms in line with their gender identity. In contrast, the girl’s own safety in a lockdown was of low priority.

Stafford County Public Schools spokeswoman Sherrie Johnson said that the superintendent has “requested a review of all protocols and procedure to ensure that all children are treated with dignity and respect.”
