TIAA adds IVF assistance regardless of fertility status to its family planning benefit

Investment advisory firm TIAA added reciprocal IVF assistance to its family planning benefits as an LGBT+ inclusion measure on July 1st, following conversations with its LGBT+ Employee Resource Group.

TIAA’s Chief Human Resource Officer Skip Spriggs told Benefits News that the new policy means that people who apply for the benefit will no longer be required to prove they are infertile or have tried to conceive – removing a significant obstacle that had particularly impacted LGBT+ women.

According to Mercer’s 2016 “National Survey of Employer- Sponsored Health Plans,” only 57% of employers offer a type of infertility service coverage and only 25% cover IVF.

TIAA says they wanted to be in the first quartile.
