The head of private sector partnerships at Stonewall, an Out Leadership partner organization, has shared some strategies customer-facing retail businesses like supermarkets can employ to become more inclusive for trans employees and customers in the English trade publication The Grocer.
Trans employees still face a harsh road in Britain, with Stonewall’s recent Trans Report revealing that 12% of trans employees have been physically attacked by a colleague or customer in the last year.
“Supermarkets can … offer staff a voluntary way to share their preferred gender pronoun with a badge. Giving employees a simple way to indicate how they identify, so people can use the right pronoun when talking to them, helps ensure everyone is accepted and comfortable.”
