Police commissioner in Victoria, Australia apologizes for “unacceptable harm” to LGBT+ community

Graham Ashton, commissioner of Victoria Police, the main police organization in the Australian state where Melbourne is located, has issued an historic apology to members of the LGBT+ community for its enforcement of anti-gay laws.

Ashton addressed LGBT+ community members and police officers during a special event dedicated to the apology, saying “There have clearly been times when police actions caused unnecessary and unacceptable harm to the community and to our own people.”
