Lambda Legal today filed an amicus brief reflecting the support of 76 leading businesses, including Out Leadership, in the landmark LGBT+ discrimination case Evans v Georgia Regional Hospital.
In addition to signing the brief, Out Leadership partnered with Lambda, HRC, and Freedom for All Americans to secure corporate signatories, engaging a number of Out Leadership member companies including: Cigna, Cornerstone Capital, Deutsche Bank, Facebook, Microsoft Corporation, Morgan Stanley, RBC Capital Markets, and Trillium Asset Management.
“We are proud to be able to stand with so many of our member companies, and so many leading American firms, in the belief that that every American should be protected from employment discrimination on the basis sexual orientation,” said Todd Sears, Founder and Principal of Out Leadership. “We look forward to Jameka’s day in court.”
Jameka Evans worked as a security guard at Georgia Regional Hospital in Savannah. At work, she was physically assaulted, harassed and denied equal pay and equal work because she is a lesbian. When she was fired, she filed suit alleging her employer had violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act by discriminating against her on the basis of sexual orientation and gender expression. Represented by Lambda Legal, Evans has now appealed her case to the Supreme Court.
