NGLCC certification drives demand for LGBT+ owned businesses

As a growing number of municipalities and states recognize LGBT+ owned businesses as a diversity category in their contracting and procurement systems, certification from the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) is gaining currency.

To be certified by the NGLCC, a company must be at least 51% owned and run by an LGBT+ person, and submit to a formal certification process. NGLCC has certified 1,200 companies across the country, and expects more businesses to seek certification, as consumers and institutions increasingly seek to do business with LGBT+ owned companies

Justin Nelson, President of NGLCC, says: “When we put an economic face on who LGBT owners are, people who think of us as this amorphous group and are willing to take our rights away then understand that we can have a company that has $180 million in revenue.”
