New York State Comptroller DiNapoli takes action for LGBT+ people

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli has reached out to 36 companies in the New York State Common Retirement Fund’s portfolio, urging them to verify the strength of their policies on LGBT+ inclusion. DiNapoli’s letter emphasizes the positive business outcomes LGBT+ inclusive workplaces foster, such as higher retention rates and employee satisfaction.

DiNapoli’s letter, which was sent to companies including ExxonMobil, News Corp., Harley-Davidson, and Twenty-First Century Fox, discusses why it is important for companies to adopt policies to protect LGBT+ employees, particularly when legislation has failed to do so.

DiNapoli has previously partnered with Out Leadership’s Quorum in the effort to get more LGBT+ people on corporate boards. Additionally, in his work with the Fund, he’s recently reached agreements with GoPro, Monster Beverage and Standard Pacific, each of which has officially added sexual orientation and gender identity to their diversity criteria for board candidates.
