Barclays hosted the two-day OutNEXT: Global Summit for LGBT emerging leaders at its U.S. headquarters in New York on July 22-23, 2015.
OutNEXT, an initiative of Out Leadership, is the first global leadership and career development initiative designed specifically for LGBT talent in the early years of their careers. OutNEXT convenes a cohort of young leaders from Out Leadership member companies and partner organizations who have been identified as high-performing and high-potential, and engages them with award-winning leadership development education from EY, McKinsey & Co., and other leadership experts, cross-industry coaching from seasoned executives, and collaboration with peers, future clients, and community partners.
“Barclays was proud to host the OutNEXT Summit,” said Mark McLane, Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion, Barclays. “LGBT is one of our key diversity and inclusion agendas, and we’re glad to seize the opportunity to convene and engage so many impactful members of the next generation of LGBT leaders.”
The OutNEXT Hackathon, coordinated in partnership with YouNoodle, challenged participants to apply their management expertise to solve the pressing needs of LGBT nonprofits. Teams of 5-7 people competed to create innovative consulting solutions responding to one of four issues important to the LGBT community:
- LGBT Youth Homelessness
- International LGBT Rights
- HIV/AIDS
- Transgender Rights & Inclusion
Nonprofits engaged on these issues identified their most important challenges, and participants were instructed to create actionable, relevant solutions for them. Each issue bracket was judged by a panel of business and community leaders, who selected semifinalists. During the final session of the Summit OutNEXT participants voted to crown the winning team, who devised an innovative #Safespace toolkit app to help combat LGBT Youth Homelessness. The team received a grant of $10,000 from the Palette Fund toward implementing its solution.
