Ireland’s openly gay prime minister says he discussed gay rights with VP Pence

The Independent reports that Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar discussed LGBT+ rights when he met with Vice President Mike Pence last week.

The Vice President is also reported to have extended an invitation to Varadkar’s partner Matt Barrett to visit his home, should Varadkar and Barrett again travel to the US in honor of St Patrick’s Day next year.

The traditional discussion between leaders of the United States and Ireland was closed to the media for the first time this year, at the request of the socially conservative Vice President’s office.

Varadkar, who spoke about the successful Irish marriage referendum at the Out Leadership Summit in Europe in 2016, also marched with Barrett in the New York City St Patrick’s Day parade.
