Half of China’s LGBT+ population is unlikely to come out of the closet anytime soon

55% of gay and bisexual men in China, and 49% of lesbian and bisexual women say they’re unlikely to come out over the next five years, finds a new study of over 16,500 LGBT+ people in the country conducted by Blued, a gay networking app.

The study nevertheless finds that 23% of gay and bisexual men and 39% of lesbian and bisexual women plan on coming out in the next five years.

Family concerns and public perception were named as the most important factors driving respondents who plan to stay in the closet.
