FA Chairman Greg Clarke plans to promote LGBT+ inclusion with Qatar, other football associations

Greg Clarke, the chairman of the FA, England’s governing body for association football, has pledged to promote LGBT+ inclusion as it builds relationships with its foreign counterparts.

Clarke, who faced criticism from Pride in Football when he signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with the Qatari FA last week, made the promise in remarks delivered at Wembley Stadium in honor of the United Kingdom’s LGBT History Month.

Homosexuality is illegal in Qatar, the host of World Cup 2022.

“We are building relationships with the Qataris and my aspiration is to ensure that fans attending the 2022 World Cup feel safe and welcome irrespective of gender, ethnicity, faith or sexual orientation,” Clarke said.
