Employees of Australia’s ABC News warned to remain impartial during postal plebiscite on same-sex marriage

Australia’s ABC News has reminded its staffers to maintain journalistic impartiality as the country gears up for its postal plebiscite on same-sex marriage.

Editorial Policy Manager Mark Maley’s note reiterates the network’s commitment to objectivity, notes that 40 percent of Australians oppose same-sex marriage, and emphasizes that terms like “gay marriage” and “marriage equality” are not preferred.

Liberal politicians in Australia, who oppose marriage equality, have accused the ABC of campaigning for it.
