Covington joins the ACLU’s suit against Trump’s transgender ban

Covington, an Out Leadership member company, has joined the ACLU’s challenge to the Trump administration’s ban on transgender servicemembers.

Covington attorneys spent the weekend with the ACLU working on the suit, and filed a complaint on Monday in federal court in Maryland.

They argue that the ban violates the Constitution’s Equal Protection clauses by unfairly signaling out transgender service members, against the recommendations of the Defense Department.

Partner Mitchell Kamin, co-leader of Covington’s LGBT+ initiative, told Bloomberg Law that the case was a natural fit because of the firm’s prior pro bono work defending LGBT+ rights.
