California Governor Jerry Brown signed a raft of legislation supported by Equality California, including a bill that caps the amount an individual must pay out-of-pocket for any 30 day prescription at $250.
“In a really big win for people with HIV, the bill requires plans to cover single-tablet regimens (STRs) for combination antiretroviral drug treatments that are medically necessary for the treatment of HIV,” noted Anne Donnelly, director of health care policy at San Francisco-based Project Inform.
Brown also signed a bill that requires 4 state agencies to beg in collecting demographic data on LGBT people by 2018. AB 959 instructs the departments of Health Care Services, Public Health, Social Services, and Aging to collect “voluntary self-ID information” relevant to LGBT people. New York State is the only other state that requires state agencies to gather such information.
