Bahia, the Brazilian soccer club, puts wins together with progressive politics

Brazil’s Bahia football club has arguably become the most progressive club in the country, running campaigns on issues such as racism, LGBT+ rights, the demarcation of indigenous lands, and the treatment of female fans in football stadiums.

At the same time, it has managed to reduce ticket prices, increase revenues, pay off some of the debt that was crippling the club, and improve their results on the pitch.

The club’s revenue has risen 79% this year and their debt has been reduced by 16%. Introducing cheaper tickets has created income-driven memberships for the organization. The more affordable passes have enticed fans back to the club, with the number of members growing from 14,000 to 45,000.
