State Senator Andrew Sherwood, a Democrat, has introduced legislation that would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, housing, and public accommodations.
The bill, SB 1199, would amend current Arizona laws addressing discrimination, adding protections for LGBT people and veterans. The bill was applauded by the advocacy group ONE Community, which wrote on Facebook, “It’s time for Arizona to be Open for Business to Everyone!”
The bill has 16 co-sponsors in the Arizona House of Representatives and six in the State Senate. It will be considered by the legislature this year.
