German sportswear giant Adidas has amended its sponsorship agreements to reassure LGBT athletes that they can come out without fear of their contracts being terminated, according to BuzzFeed News.
The move was announced last Thursday in London by the company’s CFO, Robin Stalker. The amended clause in the contract reads: “Adidas acknowledges and adheres to principles of diversity, as this is a central part of the Adidas group philosophy. Therefore Adidas warrants that this agreement will neither be terminated nor modified in case the athlete comes out to the public as a member of the LGBT community.”
Adidas, which is the world’s second largest sportswear firm, will also sponsor a boat featuring Dutch LGBT sports clubs at the Amsterdam Pride Parade in June. The European Commission will also sponsor, for the first time, a boat at the event.
