Activists urge Amazon’s LGBT+ employee group to fight Tennessee’s anti-LGBT+ bills

Over 30 activists including Evan Wolfson and Christine Quinn cosigned a letter to Amazon’s LGBT+ employee group, Glamazon, urging the company to “put their own social and political capital to good use” by publicly opposing Tennessee’s slate of anti-LGBT+ bills currently being considered.

The letter was organized by the “No Gay? No Way!” campaign started in response to Amazon’s hugely publicized search for a second headquarters location in 2018—9 of the 20 areas shortlisted were in states with no LGBT+ discrimination protections.

The campaign’s director, Conor Gaughan said the group expected to make the most impact by addressing the letter to the Glamazons who were more likely to pressure company leadership internally as activities employees.

“It’s all an attempt to ask Amazon to live up to its values and walk the walk and aggressively speak out against the slate of bills in front of the legislature in Tennessee,” said Gaughan.
