Scotland has become the first country to adopt an LGBT+ inclusive curriculum policy, requiring the history of LGBT+ rights movements, the denouncement of transphobia and homophobia, and exploration of LGBT+ identity to be taught in all schools. Importantly, there are no opt-outs or religious exemptions for the policy.
Scotland is consistently ranked highly in Europe for LGBT+ legal protections, and continues to pioneer pro-LGBT+ policies. Advocates are celebrating the “monumental victory”, with great hopes for a reduction in bullying and a further wave of LGBT+ inclusion in younger generations.
