New Kansas Governor Laura Kelly reinstates LGBT+ state worker protections

Governor Laura Kelly has reinstated LGBT+ state worker protections in Kansas, prohibiting workplace discrimination against LGBT+ state employees in her first official act as governor. Gov. Brownback removed the protections in 2015, originally established by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius in 2007.

“As I have said numerous times before, discrimination of any kind has no place in Kansas and it will not be tolerated in this administration,” said Kelly. “We will ensure that state workers feel safe and supported in their working environment.”

Kelly’s executive order goes farther than the original protections, extending them to state contractors.
