New EY study finds that workers place high value on belonging in the workplace

EY’s Belonging Barometer study finds that people are turning to the workplace wanting – and expecting – to find belonging. It has been well established that a sense of belonging leads to better employee outcomes, including higher productivity, engagement, and motivation.

LGBT+ people face more exclusion in the workplace; as a result, 68% of LGBT+ people see exclusion as a form of bullying, as do similarly high percentages of women and underrepresented minorities. Feelings of exclusion have been shown to cause physical and emotional stress.

The study also found that regular check-ins, both personal and professional, foster the greatest sense of belonging in the workplace.
