Nashville Mayor David Briley signed an executive order giving LGBT+ owned businesses the same status as women- and minority-owned businesses for government contracts and economic development opportunities. Nashville is the first city to enact such a policy in 2019, following Hoboken, New Jersey, and Baltimore, Maryland in 2018.
“It’s a historic day for this city and for the South, but it’s part of a long-standing tradition in Nashville of demonstrating a commitment to everybody who lives in this city and making our city more inclusive for equitable economic opportunity,” Briley said before signing the order.
