LGBT+ protections increase despite attacks from U.S. government
U.S. cities earned perfect scores this year for LGBT+ legal protections, extending their laws and policies to include the LGBT+ community.

A record number of U.S. cities earned perfect scores on this year’s Municipal Equality Index for LGBT+ legal protections. Cities were graded on legal protections and policies for LGBT+ residents such as non-discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations, inclusion in public services and enforcement of laws against hate crimes.

As LGBT+ rights continue to face relentless attacks from the Trump administration, this increase in protections shows strides towards progress.

“There remains so much more work to be done to protect and empower LGBTQ Americans,” said Alphonso David, Human Rights Campaign president. “Fortunately, many local officials in cities and towns across America are leading that work forward.”
