HBO opens summer pop-up studio in Provincetown

HBO will open a summer pop-up community space in Provincetown, Massachusetts for seven weeks of LGBT+ cultural programming. “The Studio” will host conversations with editors from gay publications including Out, The Advocate, and The Tenth, in addition to presenting movie screenings, art exhibits, parties, drag queen trivia contests, and more.

Cameron Leel, director of HBO’s Multicultural Marketing department, spoke about the cultural importance of the Massachusetts town. “It’s a really nice tie back to Provincetown’s legacy as a writer and artist colony, and what kind of art comes out of the space”.

Explaining HBO’s decision to launch a studio space in a gay center like Provincetown, Leel observed: “LGBTQ [people] have a much higher consumption of media, and they’re really pop culture and entertainment junkies.”
