Tune in as we present a preview of the first-ever global ally research project with an LGBT+ component. We studied 13 countries to better understand how to actively engage allies in the fight for equality. This episode of This Week in Leadership will preview of the U.S. version of this allyship research. Jane Barry-Moran, Out Leadership’s Manager of Programs and Partnerships will be joined by Danni Bayn and Vita Harris from FCB Global and Jane Steinmetz from EY. Together they will present some teasers from the larger findings and discuss the process by which this project came to be.

Jane Steinmetz

As the Office Managing Principal of Ernst & Young LLP’s Boston office, Jane Steinmetz’s priority is to connect EY’s clients with their 2,300 professionals who provide exceptional service across all EY service lines. In this role, her focus is on the people she leads, the community EY operates in and the markets EY serves. Prior to her current role, Jane served as the New England Market Leader for Financial Services where She led high performing teams of professionals within the assurance, advisory, and tax service lines. She also served as the national leader for EY’s national indirect tax practice for the financial services industry.
With over 25 years of experience, Jane guides strategic, client service and operational recommendations. With a background in tax, she has consulted with a diverse array of taxpayers and been a global tax account leader for some of the firm’s largest clients. Jane’s consultation has involved high profile controversy matters, nexus considerations, large scale compliance functions and driving legislative tax changes of critical importance.
Jane is the current chair of the Massachusetts Taxpayer Foundation, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Chapter of United Way, Boys and Girls Club of Boston, National Association of Corporate Directors and Massachusetts Business Roundtable. She is also part of the executive leadership team of the Massachusetts High Tech Council.
Jane was named to Boston Business Journal Power 50, INvolve and Yahoo Finance’s OUTstanding LGBT+ Ally Role Model 2019 list, and received a Pinnacle Award for Achievement in Management.
Jane is passionate about creating an inclusive environment, making an impact on the local community, government legislation and the next generation of women leaders.
Vita Harris

Vita Harris is an industry veteran who understands the creative craft and what’s needed in order to continue to push our industry forward. With her eyes trained sharply on the future, Harris has developed evolving tools and frameworks that help the organization produce award-winning work for both new business and legacy brands. She’s also worked on top brands like Beiersdorf, Verizon, AT&T, American Express and U.S. Kraft/Mondelēz. What’s more, she works hard to cultivate the next generation of industry stars. “If I can’t walk out of the advertising industry having left it a better place for the people behind me,” she says, “then my work is in vain.” The fact is, although there are many more improvements to be made, Harris has already changed things for the better. A powerhouse of inspiration, she mentors interns, helps clients and the industry embrace change, and campaigns heartily for underrepresented groups in the field. Harris wears many hats and each one is focused on progressing the industry and moving creative forward.
Harris has devoted her enthusiasm, skills and energy to FCB since 1996, when she joined the network. Since then, she has been named one of the 4A’s “100 People Who Make Advertising Great”; one of Black Enterprise’s “Top Women Executives in Marketing and Advertising”; and, in 2006, one of The Network Journal’s “25 Influential Black Women in Business.” In 2011, she was featured in Black Enterprise’s “Power” Issue and, in 2010, she was recognized as an ADCOLOR Award Legend. Most recently, in 2018, Vita received the Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism from the University of Missouri. She serves on the board of the ANA Educational Foundation and is a member of The Ad Council’s Campaign Review Committee. She also judges the Effie Awards, the Advertising Research Foundation David Ogilvy Awards, the ADCOLOR Awards and the IPG Inclusion Awards.

Danni Bayn
Strategic Analytics Director

Danni Bayn is one of FCB’s lead researchers, having designed and conducted over two dozen studies in a wide variety of fields, such as Retail, Healthcare and Advocacy. She earned her PhD in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Minnesota and has been a vocal advocate for LGBT+ rights for over two decades. Bayn works out of FCB’s Chicago office.
