White House brings together LGBT+ tech leaders for a third annual meeting

The Obama administration gathered a diverse group of LGBT+ tech leaders from companies including Apple, Amazon, Google, Twitter, and Facebook to “solve some of America’s toughest challenges.” More than 50% of summit attendees were people of color, 20% identified as trans or gender non-conforming, and more women attended than men – meaning that the composition of the gathering reflected some of the most important gaps in representation in the tech industry overall.

Ideas brought up in this meeting will be used at the TechUp conference, which will take place a week after the upcoming presidential election. The group discussed issues faced by the LGBT+ community, such as the complexity of gathering data about the LGBT+ community, the inability to find resources and doctors, and how to handle data that can influence policy decisions and new laws.
