KFC restaurant manager fired after rescinding job offer to trans woman

A manager who rescinded a job offer to a woman after learning she was trans was swiftly fired by KFC last week for violating the company’s nondiscrimination policy.  The offer of employment was also re-extended to the woman.

The woman, Georgia Carter, applied to a KFC in Richmond, Virginia, and following an interview, was offered a job by the store’s manager. Within an hour of the offer, however, the manager telephoned her to ask why Carter’s driver’s license listed her gender as male.  When she stated that she was transgender, he rescinded the offer.  The manager was fired after news of the event spread on Twitter.

“KFC’s policy is to treat everyone fairly, equally and with respect, and we do not tolerate discrimination of any kind. Upon learning of this allegation, the franchisee who owns this Richmond restaurant conducted an immediate and thorough investigation… The manager has been terminated for violating the franchisee’s anti-discrimination policy, which is inclusive of gender identity and sexual orientation,” the company wrote in a statement to BuzzFeed News.
